Grant amnesty to Boko Haram says Northern leaders to Buhari

Prominent northerners including the former chief Justice of Nigeria, Mohammed Uwais and Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Ambassador Babagana kingibe and former Ambassador to the United Nations Ibrahim Gambari, these people have asked the president-elect, even before been in office, he should grant amnesty to the Insurgents Boko Haram.

The above listed individuals have asked the president to give priority attention to the special economic programmes for the North-East geopolitical zone, and also warn against the scrapping of the on-going amnesty programme for the ex-militants in the Niger Delta region.

The request for granting amnesty to Boko Haram was made in a communiqué after a two-day conference “Security and Governance Challenges in Africa’s Largest  Democracy” by the Savannah  Centre  for Diplomacy, Democracy and Development SCDDD.

In the communiqué, they also called on the Federal  Government

To expedite action on the compendsation of victims of Boko Haram terrorism and insurgency through the establishment and funded Victims support fund…. The carnage devastation and displacements, which the Boko Haram group inflicted upon many innocent Nigerians in the North –East Region”

Dr Junaid Mohammed, did not agree with the request but see  it as rewarding criminals instead of punishing them for their crimes
