Seven People Accused of Witchcraft in Tanzania
In the Kigoma region of Tanzania,
seven people were accused of witchcraft
and hacked with machetes and burned alive. five of which are over 60 years of
age and the other two were around 40 years according to the police chief Jafari
Mohammed
23 people have being arrested
over the crimes of killing the seven people. This assault took place on Monday but
the reports came later when the police arrested the 23 people including the local
leaders in connection to the crimes as they will appear in court for murder charges.
The Legal and Human Rights Centre (LHRC) has estimated as many as 500
witches are lynched every year, and based on reports about 3,000 people killed
between 2005 and 2011 and many of which are elderly women with red eyes which is seen as sign of witchcraft.

(LHRC) said many of the locals believe that, the misfortunes' that befalls the
people which ranges from poverty, infertility and failure in business is as a result of the
witchcraft of the old people with red eyes.
Albinos are not left behind, they
are killed and dismembered because of the widespread of believes that
charms made from their body parts bring good fortune and prosperity to whoever
used them as the source of their charms
