President Mohammadu Buhari has accused the US Government for Aiding and Abetting Boko Haram
The Nigerian
President Mohammadu Buhari has accused
the United States for indirectly aiding and abetting the sects that have being terrorizing
Nigeria Boko Haram. This was as a result
US denial of Nigeria access to Military Arsenal to deal with the
insurgency of the sect.
He made
this clear while speaking yesterday Wednesday in Washington DC at the United States Institute
of Peace USIP and really frowned at the “Leahy Law” by the US Government based on
unsubstantiated human rights abuse by the Nigerian military.
The President
wants the US to give Nigeria assistant
in the fight with the insurgent with minimal strings attached “far more substantial counter-terrorism
assistance with minimal strings” and the President added
“Regrettably the blanket application of the Leahy Law by the United States
on the grounds of unproven allegations
of human rights violation leveled against
our forces has denied us access to appropriate strategic weapons to
prosecute the war against the insurgent”
Mohammadu
Buhari came out blunt as he can and said
“Unwittingly, and I dare say,
unintentionally, the application of the Leahy Law amendment by the US Government
has aided and abetted the Boko Haram
terrorist group in the prosecution of its extremist ideology and hate, the
indiscriminate killings and maiming of civilians, in raping of women and
girls, and in their other heinous crimes”
