Grant amnesty to Boko Haram says Northern leaders to Buhari
Prominent
northerners including the former chief Justice of Nigeria, Mohammed Uwais and Secretary
to the Government of the Federation, Ambassador Babagana kingibe and former Ambassador
to the United Nations Ibrahim Gambari, these people have asked the
president-elect, even before been in office, he should grant amnesty to the
Insurgents Boko Haram.
The
above listed individuals have asked the president to give priority attention to
the special economic programmes for the North-East geopolitical zone, and also
warn against the scrapping of the on-going amnesty programme for the ex-militants
in the Niger Delta region.
The request
for granting amnesty to Boko Haram was made in a communiqué after a two-day
conference “Security and Governance
Challenges in Africa’s Largest Democracy”
by the Savannah Centre for Diplomacy, Democracy and Development
SCDDD.
In the communiqué,
they also called on the Federal Government
“To expedite action on the compendsation of
victims of Boko Haram terrorism and insurgency through the establishment and
funded Victims support fund…. The carnage devastation and displacements, which
the Boko Haram group inflicted upon many innocent Nigerians in the North –East Region”
Dr Junaid
Mohammed, did not agree with the request but see it as rewarding criminals instead of
punishing them for their crimes
